Croydon Council has now introduced a 20 mile per hour speed limit on roads in Park Hill (and other parts of Croydon). Major roads like Park Hill Road are excluded. The Council say that this will improve road safety; discourage traffic from passing through; and encourage walking and cycling. Further details are given in the leaflet which has been sent to all households.
The Residents Association opposed these plans. We do not think that the speed limit will be effective since neither the Council nor the police will be able to enforce it. It has cost £290,000 to extend the limit to this part of Croydon and we think that there are better ways of spending this money.
We appealed to local residents to support us in opposing these plans, but the Council has gone ahead anyway and the 20mph signs are now blighting our neighbourhood.
